Absolutely nothing beauty related bought this week :)  It was made sweeter by belated birthday presents:

Marion sent me items from the latest Sephora collection. The two eyeshadows are beautiful, they suffered a bit during the journey but will be sorted easily enough. Swatches etc soon.

What have you bought this week?

Talk about being green, eco-friendly or ethical. What do you do to make a difference?

I'd love to be able to list all the amazing things I do for the environment but I do the basics. Mostly we recycle all our household waste. And just like everyone else, we are careful not to waste water, electricity or gas.

I think the worst thing I do is use antibacterial cleaning wipes and they are not recyclable. I need to look into more eco friendly ways of cleaning. Any suggestions?

What do you do to be green?

Are you a collector? Maybe a bit of a hoarder? Tell us about something you like to collect. Or if you favour minimalism, perhaps tell us why?

Two things I hoard: clothes and make up. The make up hoarding is getting better, I used to have about double the amount I own now and even though I still have waaaaaay more than what most women would count as a lot of make up, I am happy with it as it is. I still have a blog sale box ready and it is all a lot more manageable.

The clothes hoarding stems from my ever changing size! I have items spanning 4 different dress sizes and I am very much guilty of the 'but I'll fit into that again someday'. When that someday is, I'm not sure yet! Those jeans were tight at my lowest ever weight so I should let them go.

Although I have to say that again here, I am working on it. Last summer I donated four big bin bags of clothes to my local charity shop and I have sold a lot of stuff on ebay. Also did a car boot sale a while back and sold a few bits there too.

So yes, my name is Gaelle and I am a hoarder but I'm working on it! What do you hoard?

Tell us about your favourite book. Or maybe give us a top 5 of the books that changed your life.

This is such a tough one. I used to be such an avid reader and I do still love it but by the time I get to bed nowadays, I fall asleep within five minutes. And I have to read so much for uni this year, fascinating titles such ' positive alternatives to exclusion' and ' deconstructing special education and constructing inclusion'...

Instead I'll go for the most recent book I read and made an impact:

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson is a very strange but captivating book. The narrator is a man who has been badly burned in a car accident and the book is his journey to recovery. The main characters go back and forth between medieval times and the present and I found it fascinating. Some of it was quite hard to read because some dialogues/ descriptions are very graphic (not in a sexual way) but riveting still.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoi is my current book club book. I am reading it on my Kindle and am only 23% in. I have to be honest, I'm finding it incredibly dull and fear that I won't have finished it by Friday.

Have you read either of these two books? What would be your favourite book?

( got 3 days to catch up on, eek)

If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would it be?

That's a very easy question. I would go back to Japan in a flash. It had been a lifelong dream to go and loved it there. I want to see so much more of that country and I can't wait to be in a position to go back. I want to go to Kyoto and Okinawa. I want to spend more time in Tokyo as I loved it and see more of the country inland, Gunma especially. I want to see Mount Fuji closer up and I want to be there for cherry blossom season. (all images Google)

Sigh... Where is your dream desination?

Blog Every Day in May #8: First job

Tell us about your first job. Did you love it or was it horrendous?

My first paid job was in a well known supermarket in France: Leclerc. It was a three month stint at the end of my first year at uni. I can positively say I hated it.

I had to label new stock, monitor stock and stack shelves. It was the most mind numbingly boring job. I used to dream about opening boxes and labeling items! The only saving grace was that it was the stationery aisle, still not enough to make it interesting. We had to wear pink overcoats which were unsightly to say the least.

We also had silly shift patterns, working from 6 to 10 am then from 3 till 7pm. It was a killer.

It made me work that little bit harder at uni the next year and I promised myself I wouldn't work there again and the next summer I went for a completely different job!

What was your first job?

Tell us about your pets past/present

When I was a kid, we had many pets. We lived in the countryside and always had a dog and then my brother took to bringing stray cats home!

The most important past pet was our first dog. His name was Kheops. He was a cross between a German shepherd and something else and had the most gorgeous ginger fur. He was kind, patient and affectionate and I was devastated when he died. My parents got him just before I was born and he died when I was 14. As he got older, his hind leg started to drag and every night I could hear him walking round the house and I could hear his leg on the gravel. For months after he died, I could hear that sound! The mind plays funny tricks on you! Sadly I don't have any pictures of him as this was before the digital era

When we bought the house, I decided it was time for us to have a pet and we bought a kitten. Millie has been with us since September. It's been brilliant seeing her grow and we've been like parents, worried when she went outside for the first time, and when she had her operation...Even though she has driven us insane at times, we love her very much and she is a great pet. I would like to thank her for the two dead mice she left on the landing, one of whom was decapitated!
